Welcome to South Gloucestershire Vaccination Service at
West Walk Surgery
We are pleased to offer a new vaccination service at West Walk Surgery.
This covers travel and non-travel vaccinations.
We offer a high quality, doctor-led private travel vaccination service available to all ages living in any area. Our service includes a free telephone consultation with one of our experienced doctors, at which we can discuss your specific vaccination needs for your planned holiday destination.
Please read the important information below, then review our vaccine Prices and Next Steps, before submitting your Health & Vaccine History Form. You should try to allow at least 8 weeks prior to your travel date to give time to have full vaccine courses and for them to be fully effective.
If you wish to find out which vaccines you will likely need beforehand, as well as general travel health information, please see the website: https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/
Here you can read their Advice for all travellers information, which gives detailed information about general health risks abroad, and advice about visas & health insurance. The Courses or boosters usually advised section summarises what vaccinations you may require. If you have a record of your immunisations/vaccinations at home, see if you are up-to-date with the recommended vaccines, and we can confirm this with you during the telephone appointment.
At your telephone consultation, where necessary, we will also discuss medication for preventing malaria. We advise you to also read information about other ways of preventing malaria here. For a small fee, we can provide private prescriptions for anti-malarial medications.
Please note, certain vaccinations are provided free on the NHS. These can be given by your GP surgery and include:
Hepatitis A – if you have had two vaccinations, you are covered for 25 years from the second dose.
Diphtheria, tetanus & polio – booster required every 10 years (for travel purposes only).
Typhoid – booster required every 3 years (for travel purposes only).
We also provide other vaccines not intended for travel. This includes vaccines such as influenza, Meningitis B, HPV etc. You may be eligible for these on the NHS, and so should first enquire at your own practice. If you are ineligible then please get in touch. Please see details of the vaccinations we offer and costs of these here.
Please note, if you are a patient registered at West Walk Surgery, due to NHS regulations, we cannot offer this type of vaccination to you. This restriction only applies to NON-TRAVEL vaccinations.
